Acupuncture Training

By Michael Bustamante Acupuncture Training prepares students for unique professions in the ancient Chinese healing technique of acupuncture, which has been used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, stress illnesses, emphysema, asthma, arthritis, headaches, hypertension, depression, and much more. Oriental medicine has long served a quarter of the global population, and acupuncture has been one of the most respected of the oriental healing professions for centuries. Acupuncture Training teaches students that acupuncture works on the premise that bodies heal in response to nerve stimulation from the short-term placement of needles in critical tissue beneath the skin. The last century has seen the art of acupuncture become more refined, and it has lately been integrated with traditional Western medical sciences. In the United States, schools offering Acupuncture Training have increased in number to meet the growing acceptance of and demand for ancient Oriental medicine techniques and practices, including acupuncture. Acupuncture Training introduces students to theoretical and practical skills used in acupuncture therapy, and students may find varying styles of acupuncture taught in the various Acupuncture Training Schools. In the U.S., Acupuncture Training will include basic courses in traditional medicine such as anatomy, biosciences, pathology, and medical terminology, along with courses in Oriental medicines, such as herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, and acupressure. Acupuncture Training may also include nutrition, Oriental bodywork, and research. Students in Acupuncture Training can expect to become proficient very quickly in clinical applications of acupuncture techniques. Degree programs in Acupuncture Training emphasize hands-on clinical training and the integration of supervised clinical internships in clinical settings. Students learn to identify acupuncture points by anatomical location, palpation, and proportional measurement through discussion and demonstration. Depending on the location of the acupuncture practice and the degree of education, entry-level positions with Acupuncture Training can expect earnings of $40,000 per year. Experience can soon double and triple that amount. To learn more about Acupuncture Training and additional learning programs, search our site for more in-depth information and resources. Support for Non-ADD Spouses and Partners

By Tara McGillicuddy Living with adult ADD can be quite a challenge. Not only is it a challenge for the actual person who has ADD but for those around him or her. Much needed understanding and support for adults with ADD has finally begun to surface. But what about the people who have chosen to love, honor and cherish adults with ADD? Where do they go for support and understanding? Who is going to help them cope with the challenges of adult ADD? Over the past couple of years both online and local support groups have begun to form for spouses and partners of adults with ADD. The Non-ADD Partner Support groups seem like a miracle for spouses and significant others of adults with ADD. They finally have a place to be understood and supported. Well, at least that is what many Non-ADD partners expect when entering and participating in these groups. Many of these groups do offer personal understanding and camaraderie which are essential parts of support. These same groups point their members towards vital resources about ADD which can help educate their members. Some even try to educate their members directly about ADD. Again these are all great steps in being a support group. One may actually look at these Non-ADD Partner support groups and think that the group itself has ADD. Many of these groups fail to complete the actual task of being supportive. They tend to leave out some vital steps like offering helpful advice. There is advice given, like make sure your partner is diagnosed and put on medication, which in many circumstances can be very helpful. But, the advice seems to end there. Many non-ADD partners enter these groups looking for day to day strategies and coping techniques. Some of their spouses and partners are already taking medication and some for their own personal reasons have opted not to take medication. Some of these support group leaders seem to push the use of medication on to the groups participants. It has even been reported that support group leaders give advice about specific medication from their non-medical backgrounds. Non-ADD Partner Group participants have reported that some of these groups are very negative. These participants go into the groups expecting people to share problems and have its fair share of negativity but, many leave these groups because the energy is much too negative. Some Non-ADD partners are astonished of how much bad mouthing goes on in these groups and how hateful many of the participants are towards their significant others. Quite a few non-ADD partners feel as though they dont fit into these groups because their issues dont seem as important as other members of the groups. So where do non-ADD partners who want tips, strategies and a more positive environment turn to? There different options out there. They can start their own Non-ADD Partner Support groups and set specific ground rules. They can speak up if they are already part of a group that does not seem supportive and let the support group leader know how they feel. They can become a member of ADDA which supports Adult ADD issues including non-ADD Partners. They can also hire an ADD Coach who works with ADD couples. Non-ADD Partners need to know that they are not alone and that there is help and support for them too. There are others out there who are sharing similar experiences as they are. There are ways to find both support and understanding too. Tara McGillicuddy is an ADD Coach and Activist. Spare Muscle Mass and Power, Lose the Fat

By David Petersen The goal of many athletes and exercisers is to get cut or to lose excess fat while at the same time retaining muscle mass and power. Unfortunately, it is not possible to lose copious amounts of fat without incurring some loss of muscle mass. The reason for this is because at any given moment during a day and even during exercise, the human body does not exclusively make use of a single substrate or energy-producing substance such as carbohydrate, protein or fat. As mentioned in previous articles, substrate utilization is exercise intensity dependent that is higher intensity exercise will rely more heavily on carbohydrate but will still metabolize small quantities of protein and fat. Likewise, during low intensity, extended duration exercise the body will rely more heavily on fat utilization yet still receive a percentage of the energy yield from protein and carbohydrate. The key to fat loss that spares muscle mass and power is to shift energy balance in the favor of increased expenditure. In my opinion, the source of this energy expenditure is irrelevant - as long as a negative caloric intake is achieved. Heres why: long periods of extended cardiovascular exercise tends to metabolize more fat but a major drawback is that it has a muscle wasting effect (look at the build of any marathoner). This is due to the fact that cortisol (a protein catabolizing hormone) levels are increased for long periods of time. Also, during endurance type exercise, amino acids from muscle tissues are required to keep blood glucose levels normal should liver glycogen (stored carbohydrate) levels deplete. Lastly, during endurance-type exercise, only the low threshold Type I muscle fibers will be activated, resulting in little to no stimulation/training of the larger and more powerful Type IIA and B fibers. Therefore, the best advice for individuals wanting to cut while preserving muscle mass and power is to perform high intensity interval training (HIIT). Interval training is a unique form of training that utilizes short periods (3-5 min.) of intense running (close to maximal capacity/VO2max) separated by rest periods of the 2-3 times the same duration. The intensity of interval training allows for a greater power output (greater energy expenditure in less time) and the activation of the large Type II muscles, thus preserving power and strength gains. Also, since Type IIA fibers exhibit some of the qualities of Type I muscle fibers (endurance muscle), performing interval training will actually lead to greater increases in fitness, since a larger quantity of muscle will be stimulated by the increased power output. Coming Out… As an Internet Dater

By Ellen Friedrichs A few weeks ago I was having lunch with a casual acquaintance. As we were chatting, she mentioned her new boyfriend, Adam. “Oh,” I asked. “How did you two meet?” She looked around and said, “Well, I guess I can tell you. I mean, he tells everyone.” And then she lowered her voice slightly, “We met online.” Now, to me, the phrase, we met online is not one that warrants a lowered voice and furtive glance around the room before being uttered. But, apparently admitting to meeting over the internet has not quite become the stuff of polite conversation. In reality, this shouldn’t be that surprising. There are some long-standing stigmas attached to this type of coupling; often holdovers from the days of newspaper personal ads and video dating services. My first encounter with personal ad dating came when I was a teenager. I was at an older cousin’s wedding. At one point during the reception, my mother whispered to me, “You know, they met through the personal ads.” Forgetting my whereabouts I loudly repeated, “The personals?” only to get a sound motherly shushing. But, I was confused. My cousin didn’t seem desperate. Or weird for that matter. Weren’t those the types of people who did this? Now, granted I was a teenager and not fully versed in the ways of the world, but I would hazard a guess that I wasn’t the only one under the impression that only desperate divorcees and perverted polygamists would place an ad looking for a date. Of course, it was more likely than not the daters in question were simply busy people with specific needs and interests whose social lives had not yet presented them with an appropriate match. Just like internet daters today. Now that internet dating has been going strong for nearly a decade, people are coming around to the idea that there is no more shame in meeting someone online that there is in meeting someone through a friend, at a bar or over the office water cooler. My friend Andy and his live-in-love met on an internet dating site a few years ago. However, this wasn’t initially what they told people, instead concocting a tale about meeting in a park on their way to work. Eventually, the happy couple felt silly perpetuating the fabricated story and outed themselves to friends and family. Not surprisingly, the only negative reactions came from people who didn’t understand why they had invented the park fable in the first place. Still, as Andy says, “In the beginning we felt a little pathetic, like we had to go online to get a date. And, I know Jen was worried that people would think we had just been looking for a hook up. But, we got over that pretty quick!” Many internet daters see these qualms as being decidedly out of touch. Twenty-seven year-old Ilana explains, “I have no problem telling people I’m doing Internet dating because everyone’s doing it. I think the fact the people do everything on the Internet makes it seem totally natural. You do all your communication on the internet. All your research on the Internet. Make all your plans on the Internet, so why not find someone to date on the internet?” Why not indeed? There’s plenty of stuff out there to feel legitimately embarrassed about, an addiction to reality television and our love of Les Miserables for example. Online dating doesn’t need to be added to that list. Who knows, in a few years, the idea of going out with someone without first being able to check his or her profile might seem positively pass. Aggressive Marketing

By Stacie Zaragosa Ezine publishers and other online business owners, seem to prefer Online Advertising options. But why stop there? You can reach a whole new market by taking your advertising efforts “offline”. Adding Offline Advertising to your Online Advertising can help your business in ways that you have never imagined! I’m not talking about Direct Mail. That can be very costly. Keeping your costs down, especially when starting a new business should always be a top priority. So how to you advertise “offline”, inexpensively? It’s easier than you think. Flyers are a great, inexpensive way to advertise offline. Create an eye catching flyer that provides tear offs and post them in your local shopping center, schools, or other places that allow you to post flyers. When people pass by your flyer, they can tear off your information. Fast and convenient. Keep copies of flyers in your car and carry them wherever you go. You never know when you may find a place to post them. Then once a week, go back to where you placed the flyers and replace them with new ones. Chances are your tear offs will be gone and you need a fresh one to replace it ! If you are looking to widen your reach, ask your subscribers if they would like to become helpers. Mail some flyers to them and ask them to post them in their local supermarkets and schools and any other place that allows postings. You might want to offer them a small gift for doing this for you. You will be surprised as to how many people will do this for you. It doesn’t hurt to ask. Another inexpensive way is to create business cards. I have found that many places like beauty salons, mom and pop stores, stationery stores and other business establishments, will allow you to leave business cards on their counters. So why not get a few hundred Biz Cards printed up and start leaving them wherever you go? Send some to family , friends and to your helpers. I personally use Vistaprint.com. They are inexpensive and the quality is Top Notch. Go ahead, add Offline Advertising to your campaign and BECOME that aggressive marketer! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stacie Zaragosa is the publisher of Ezine Empire http://www.ezineempire.com and also the owner of Zara’s Fun Page. Country Lawn Maintenance - 10 Tips to Know Before You Mow

By Nola Kelsey Practical survival skills should be fifty percent of what we study in school! Languishing twelve to sixteen years in the bowels of our education system should not leave American citizens unprepared to cope with perpetually running toilets. A burned out taillight should not knock our world off its axis. This chasm of neglected wisdom is not simply filled with the obvious auto and home maintenance issues. All the little stupidities reflect on our society. Years ago, I was sitting in an I-5 traffic jam with my sister, August. Innocently I remarket, I hate trying to tune in that radio station while Im driving. Without provocation August reached down and yanked the unsuspecting radio button straight out of its place. Metallic skeletal parts were revealed. Grey whales migrating off the coast heard my gasp. Then, get this; she shoved the hapless button back in all the way! Even if the traffic had been moving, I was in no condition to drive. This blatant assault on my automotive electronics was uncalled for. Worse was learning at age 28, I was the only person in America uninformed as to how radios were set. My thoughts, if you can call them that, seem silly now. I believed pushing the buttons placed the dial in the vicinity of various stations. Only lucky drivers and folks who listened to Christian music had buttons that coincidently landed on the exact preferred position. This knowledge graced me just before digital. Lord, how I hate tuning in digital. All society has an obligation to pick up where floundering education systems go astray. Teach children the little things. Change vacuum belts as a family. Award prizes to offspring who can find the level of power steering fluid and above all else, instill in them the skill to read a ballot. In keeping with a heartfelt desire to better Planet Earth, Id like to pass along ten things nobody ever told me about lawn mowing, the country way. When I moved to the hinterland I was naive to the tribulations of rural landscaping. My massive country lawn looked innocent enough. Then the escrow closed. The following was learned via trial and error - mostly error. One: Always carry wire cutters when mowing While the majority of rusty old wire shot through your leg can be extracted with a few good tugs, a surprisingly large proportion entwine around ankle bones in a manner no physician or physicist can explain. With a handy set of wire cutters excess can be trimmed. Overage tends to snag on the gas pedal when diving to the Emergency Room. Two: Recycle Be sure to have the hospital staff return wires once they rinse your Achilles Tendon away. You can reuse it (the wire or the tendon) for fencing projects. No doubt this convenience was the reasoning behind 130 years of country landowners discarding litter in what otherwise would appear to be a careless manner. Three: Remember the Choke - When the mower keeps coughing and sputtering to a stop, or any other time you want to choke the dam thing, push this lever. It does nothing. To get the sadistic contraption running youll need gasoline. Four: Beware Safety Features Modern mowers posses a handle lever that shuts mowers down every time the operator looks to the left. This quadruples the number of pull starts needed. The American Academia of Carpal Tunnel Physicians sponsors safety levers. Mowers also come with what is called a Plastic Do-Hickie. A Do-Hickies only function is to display a sticker reminding people not to shove their hands or feet inside a running lawn mower. Gardeners only do this to remove grass clogs. Ironically Do-Hickies cause 99.96% of grass clogs. Five: Stay Hydrated In the country, heat stoke is as much a right of spring passage as bat guano in the kitchen pantry. The ecstasy of eighty-degree temps after nine months of winter collides head on with an obsessive desire to get every last flippin grass blade perfectly level. Before golf course precision is ever achieved, Type A mowers will be face down on the carpet. With ice packs strategically perched on major arterial lines, youll wonder, Could the shag rug be trimmed just a tad more evenly? Six: Budget Country folks can purchase their fashionable shit-beat trucks for less than a thousand dollars. This elevates you to the social status of a Ferrari driver in the city. However your lawn mower will cost you three times as much. Tractor mowers are a must out here. The lawns are too massive. Mowing with a push mower during spring would keep property owners circling 24/7. Only idiots and starving authors use push mowers. Seven: Remember General Maintenance - A Clanking serenade resulting from the first start up of the morning is not unusual. What happened is this: Overnight grass built up underneath your mower. Then, flakes have dried to the point where you could use tin snips to cut it into a disk and burn yourself a springtime fresh CD (Green Day?). To remove the offending mass grab an ice pick and go after the dehydrated flakes like Sharon Stone during mating season. Eight: Electric Mowers: Dont - Even if you could lug 300 yards of cord, its a spectacularly bad idea. When several dogs and a milk goat play chase under the extension, all hell, and the cord, will break loose. Hopefully this will occur prior to overloading the freaky little round country fuses and setting your ancient electrical box ablaze. In a town like mine where theres an all-volunteer Fire Department, the carnage could be unspeakable. Hey, Howard, I see that city gals home is ablaze over there. Got any marshmallows? Sure Pap. Ya know I told her she should not buy that Rowski house just a few years after she did. The only saving grace is with all the unsoldered plumbing in this oasis of handyman dropouts, the houses themselves wont burn below the second floor. Nine: Use the Section Technique The theory here is you divide your lawn into a section for each member of the household. Everyone contributes. Nobody gets overwhelmed by the workload. For example: assign your teenager to mow section 1 on Tuesdays - then you mow it. You assign your husband to mow section 2 on Wednesdays then you mow it. Request your every-present brother-in-law mow section 3 on Thursday and again, you do the work. Everyone takes a turn. Hell, if you have any other males around; people, bulls, aspen trees, give them a section. What do you have to loose? Ten: Do Not Get Discouraged! - Never let grass win! During spring, folks can get discouraged. They wake up to note their freshly mowed lawn grew back while they slept. Fact is, by mowing barefoot you will feel the new grass poke up as you pass. Its just the country way. * Disclaimer: Computer hard drives vary. In the event you insert a lawn clipping diskette into your CD burner and your hard drive fails to function please do not file suit against the manufacturer or the author. We cannot be held accountable for the quality of your grass. Countersuits will request you promptly cease swimming in the gene pool. Five Ways To Avoid Procrastinating in College

By Chris Stout Procrastination is a college students worst nightmare. The biggest impediments that youll face in school will be self-created time restraints. Time management is crucial. You have to balance the fun with the not so fun if you want to succeed in college. Here are five ways to help you avoid procrastinating. 1. Budget your time Account for all your waking hours in the day. Really breakdown how you spend your hours, and set aside chunks of time to complete whatever task is on your agenda. 2. Work with productive people Associate with kids who know who handle their business. When you team up with capable study partners, youll notice the impact on your performance. By cooperating with others, you will have the dual benefits of combining knowledge and constant encouragement. 3. Be truly interested in the courses you take You need to have a genuine passion for your studies. You need to flavor your education with your personal tastes. Follow your academic interests and combine your likes with a solid career plan. The more involved your are with the subjects and disciplines that you love, the easier it will be to get your work done. 4. Know when its time to refuse to party Balancing school and social commitments can be tricky at times. You have to be on the ball when it comes to your classes, but at the same time, theres the need to celebrate your academic accomplishments with your fellow students. You need to be able to identify when its time have fun, and when its time to hit the books. Too much of eithers no good. You need to mix it up intelligently. In no time at all, youll discover the party-to-study ratio thats right for you. 5. Avoid all-nighters Cramming in college is common, but it can also have a detrimental effect on the value of your education. Think about it. If you distribute the amount of information that you need to cover over a longer period of time, youre going to develop a better working relationship with the material. If you try to consume a quarters worth of data in one night, you may perform well on your final exam, but you will have lost the opportunity to naturally absorb the material for the long term. Avoid all-night homework sessions if you can, if not, hone your ability to come through in the clutch. Procrastinating kills, but you can fight back. Dont be absorbed my unimportant things. College is loaded with many different distractions, but you go there for a reason. Remember your goals. Realize that your opportunity window is finite, and get to work. NDAs - Review Checklist

By Jean Sifleet NDAs (non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements) are documents commonly used to prevent unauthorized use of business information. Disclosing important information to prospective customers, suppliers or investors is a common business dilemma, because: - The disclosing party fears being ripped off - that the information will be used without compensation. - The receiving party fears that it may have similar work underway and does not want to be accused of pirating someone’s ideas. What should you look for before signing a NDA? 1. Who are the parties? The agreement should clearly identify the name, entity, address, and jurisdiction of the parties. 2. Is the agreement mutual? Does the agreement cover both parties or does it only cover disclosures by one party? 3. What is the purpose of the agreement? The agreement should specify the purpose of the disclosure. Is it background information for the purpose of developing a business relationship? Is it part of another agreement? 4. What information is covered? Confidential information is usually broadly defined to include any and all information whether oral or in writing. It is important that information be marked confidential and that oral disclosures are reduced to writing and marked confidential in a timely manner. 5. What information is excluded? NDAs exclude information that was already known prior to the date of the agreement if documented in written records; in the public domain; rightfully received from another source; or developed independent of this disclosure as evidenced by written records. 6. What safeguards are required? The agreement should specify procedures for protecting the confidential information. It should state under what circumstances it can be disclosed to employees or other parties. 7. What is the term of the agreement? How long is the agreement effective? Is it one year? Three years? Or, is it of indefinite duration? 8. What are the termination provisions? How is the agreement terminated? How is the confidential information handled in the event of termination? Is it destroyed? Returned? How will it be accounted for? 9. What does it say about intellectual property rights? Usually, NDAs specify that neither party acquires any intellectual property rights under the agreement, other than the limited rights to carry out the specified purpose. The agreement should say, No right or license, express or implied, is granted in connection with any Confidential Information disclosed pursuant to this Agreement and No commercial use is allowed without prior written consent. 10. Does it address similar work in progress? Sometimes NDAs say that each party acknowledges that the other is developing and acquiring similar technology and that nothing in this agreement precludes the receiving party from developing similar technology without obligation to the discloser provided it does not use the disclosers confidential information. 11. Does it address derivative work? Sometimes NDAs say that in the event that either party develops new information or data as a result of the work carried out, that party shall have the right to use or publish that new information, with the prior written consent of the other party. 12. Is the existence of the agreement confidential? Sometimes the agreement specifies that neither party shall make any public announcement or disclosure of this agreement without the prior written consent of the other party. 13. Are there any warranties? Usually a NDA says that the disclosing party is authorized to make the disclosure, but that there are no other warranties. 14. What happens in the event of breach? NDAs frequently call for injunctive relief in addition to any and all remedies at law. This means that a party can seek a court order prohibiting use of its information in violation of the agreement. Unfortunately, for most business disputes, going to court is not an effective remedy because it is costly and the outcome is unpredictable. For business disputes, mediation and arbitration before a neutral party experienced in business matters is a faster and more cost effective way to resolve disputes. 15. Governing laws and jurisdiction? If both parties are located in the same state, the choice of law and the location for the dispute resolution proceeding is easy. Frequently, however, the parties are located in difference states or countries and hence it can be contentious which law applies. To prevent one party from having the home court advantage, I recommend a mutually inconvenient location that is business friendly such as Delaware or the Netherlands. In conclusion, how confidential information is disclosed is important. Sufficient information needs to be disclosed to persuade the other party to proceed. Disclosing too much information without protection is risky. Disclosing too little information precludes the business relationship from progressing. Used effectively, NDAs protect information and facilitate business transactions. Used ineffectively, NDAs can confuse ownership rights and restrict business opportunities. Hope For Those Suffering From Manic Depression

By Athlyn Green A bombshell has dropped! You or a loved one have been diagnosed with manic depression. After the initial shock has lessened, you find yourself trying to understand this disorder. It makes sense to educate yourself about bipolar disorder, when attempting to deal with and recover from this condition. Questions may arise regarding the origin or cause of manic depression. Do genetics influence whether a person is born with it or will be affected later in life? Are early experiences significant and can stressful events trigger onset of symptoms? Much has been said about chemical imbalances. Is there a correlation between nutritional deficiencies and biochemical imbalances in the brain? Although the illness appears to have a genetic link, seemingly running in families, no gene has been identified that can be said to be responsible or the cause of manic depression and experts are divided in their opinions as to whether genes actually play a part. Psychological factors may also play a role. Children who have experienced traumatic events and suffered emotional damage may be at greater risk. Some sufferers can pinpoint a period of great stress precipitating or triggering onset of their condition and feel this may be at the root of or the cause of manic depression in their case. More significantly, however, extensive research shows that nutritional deficiencies in the brain and nervous system can have an impact on the brain’s delicate balance, resulting in neurotransmitters and the nervous system being compromised. These deficiencies can contribute or may be a cause of manic depression because nutritional imbalances and deficiencies may cause neurotransmitters and brain impulses to malfunction, leading to thought and mood fluctuations and changes in energy or behavior. These changes can last for hours or days, weeks or even months. For someone living with manic depression, life can be a roller coaster. Moods can swing between highs (mania) and lows (depression). When examining characteristics of or defining what is manic depression it may be helpful to describe how a brain deficient in the right nutrients may present chemistry consistent with bipolar disorder. During a manic phase a person may feel a heightened sense of self-importance, increased self-confidence, and euphoric feelings. In this overactive state, a person may experience racing thoughts and rapid speech and may be bubbling over with plans. Impulsivity and poor judgment can lead to spending sprees and debts; irritation and anger may be more readily activated. When we continue to define what is manic depression the most consistent symptom and the one presenting the biggest challenge, is often the depression sufferers experience.
